‘Children have it all then it is slowly whittled away’ Nigel Kennedy
I scribbled these words on my studio wall the day I heard the violinist talk of the wisdom of children, and it has influenced my thoughts and practice as an artist ever I take an intuitive approach to my work learnt from observing and admiring children. I remain envious of their raw and unaffected way of art making, their immediate and innate desire to be creative, their ability to see the joys in every moment, in the wonder of a puddle and the irrelevance of a blunt pencil on a plaster wall. Against our grown up culture my work represents the things that bring relief, comfort and unaffected joy. They are metaphors of nurture and relationship.
